Wavell 4 Signature – Hands On

We got our hands on a pair of the 4 Signature over-ear headphones from danish founded brand Wavell as we’ve been keen to give these a go. The Dane’s are known for many things, impeccable design, tasty pastries, insulin and probably the best beer in the world (as the Carlsberg slogan goes). But along with those accolades, is their reputation for high quality sound. The world will know Bang & Olufsen for it’s premium design audio & visual products but there are other players in the world like Wavell.

First impressions:

You take them out the box and you get a good feeling in terms of build, which is always good start. It doesn’t not feel like the most premium headsets out there, but it certainly doesn’t feel like the cheap and horribly made alternatives out there.

Noise cancellation – Wavell flag that the adaptive noise cancelling (ANC for short) will reduce background noises by -50DB. It’s not disappointing either, as I felt most of the noises around me be cancelled out quite effectively. There is also further sound control directly in their Wavell app, which allows you to change sound modes from noise cancelling to their awareness mode (which lets you hear your surroundings better).

Comfort and weight – This one is an important one, especially in today’s world, where we’re wearing headsets for long durations of time (where that be during work or your free time). Wavell 4 signature headsets are lightweight, making it less of a burden to wear vs others in the market.

Battery time – 55 hours of use out of the 4 Signature’s when you have the noise cancelling off. With the noise cancelling on it whittles down to 40 hours, which is still adequate enough to get you through a week of commuting or office use. But even with the 40-55 hours of charge you can get 5 hours power back in 5 minutes, thanks to the USB-C fast charging being on board.

Multipoint Bluetooth – You can connect, up to two devices to the Wavell 4 signature at the same time. Pretty nice to have when for example, you’re working from your laptop, whilst jamming to Spotify on your mobile. With that being said I did notice that it’s currently, not the most intuitive rendition of multipoint I’ve come across. I found when listening to music on my tablet, the music would stop whenever notifications went off on my mobile. Quite a bothersome experience, considering multipoint should intelligently prioritise the device currently playing media and not interrupt it over the other.

Overall Verdict:

The Wavell 4 Signature are priced in at 1199DKK (approximately £136) and for the price, you’re getting a pretty decent pair of over ear headphones, with little fuss to them but a great sound experience. If you’re after a set of headphones that connect fast, produce decent sound quality whilst keeping the bank from screaming, these are a great choice to get your hands on.
