David Gandy Launches Red Nose Day ‘Blue Steel’ Appeal

When I first saw Zoolander in the cinema, I wasn’t sure what to think of the movie.  However, since then I have seen it a number of times and love the comedy poke it has at the fashion industry.  The film could have been so much different if the leading person had actually been cast as a woman, but thankfully Ben Stiller and the story of male models was told.
During London Collections: Men I was invited down to The Hospital Club for an intimate screening of Zoolander with leading UK male model David Gandy.  The screening was to launch Red Nose Day’s ‘Blue Steel’ appeal, a series of fashion events and initiatives which will take place across 2013, bringing the fashion industry and great British public together for some very stylish Red Nose Day fun.

The first “Blue Steel Appeal” event will be a big fashion auction on eBay on 7th March auctioning a selection of money-can’t-buy fashion items and experiences donated by some of fashion’s most iconic brands and individuals.

David said about the appeal, “Having seen first hand the challenges people face in the UK and across the world I wanted to do something to help. After working briefly with Comic Relief on the Absolutely Fabulous sketch with Kate Moss and Stella McCartney last year, I decided to launch the “Blue Steel Appeal” to fundraise for Red Nose Day through fashion. I hope that the fashion industry will come together, have some fun, show off their best Blue Steel looks and raise money at the same time. There are truly wonderful people in the industry and it would be great to show the public the lighter side of what we do and encourage them to join us in fundraising. If we all rally together, I know we can really help a lot of people.”
