Accessorising an accessory is often a tricky skill to master, so when I heard about Diego Vanassibara’s idea to accessorise men’s shoes I was naturally curious and a little nervous.
Diego’s concept involves taking handcrafted wood components, that come from a sustainable plantation, and fixing it to the upper part of a shoe. The wooden components are designed to rest on the outer facings to add strength and increase comfort.This means that even if the shoestrings pass through the holes of the timber, the tension from the laces and wood is absorbed by the extra layer of leather leaving the bottom facings free to move.
The designs are inspired by old carpentry and woodworking traditions and combine centuries old carving techniques straight from the heart of Java with rigorous Italian craftsmanship. The range features exclusive wooden details entirely carved by hand on hybrid brogues, winter loafers and boots.
Lacquered mahogany and natural New Guinea rosewood paired with deep brown, olive and coal grey leather and midnight blue suede form a rich blend of earthy and dusky tones and a distinctive array of
